

The online sport management master’s degree can be completed in two years. Students will complete 50% of the coursework online, with the remaining hours to be completed on-site in Morgantown. Students will be required to attend on-campus courses during a two-week period in July for three consecutive summers. Please note this is not included in your tuition and fees.
Those who seek to complete the degree must be practicing professionals currently involved in their respective sport-related careers or professionals desiring a career in the sport industry. In order to enhance their careers, they must expand their skill sets to include administration and management of large-scale events and/or governance and staffing of multi-mission agencies. In addition, these professionals must develop expertise in fundraising, marketing, and resource development. These skills will uniquely prepare the professional with the latest theory-based approach to the management and administration of sport, leisure, and recreation.

- The Sport Management Program at West Virginia University has prepared qualified graduate and undergraduate students since 1981. For the first time starting in the summer of 2005, an online Master’s degree in Sport Management was offered.
- This degree offers the necessary flexibility to complete course competencies at times which are convenient for professional students.
- Faculty currently represent four other Universities throughout West Virginia: Concord, Davis and Elkins, Marshall, and Shepherd University. Additionally, our faculty represent a good balance of scholars and practitioners in the field of sport management, which brings diverse and unique experiences and insight into the electronic classroom.

Admission Requirements
Students must possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 2.75. Students must also provide three letters of recommendation, a two-page career statement, a current resume, and complete the WVU online application form for graduate admission.
Program Content
Students will gain a further understanding of Facility Management, Sport Marketing, Fundraising, Legal Issues in Sport Administration, History and Philosophy of Sports, Sports Marketing Research Methods, Sport Finance, International Sport Governance, and will complete a 6 credit hour internship.
