- At WVU Community Medicine, we bring health education to our community. Our students and faculty are deeply involved with educating the community about health, and the prevention of disease and injury.
- We teach health professionals and community groups, conduct research, and offer consultation and service. Our faculty and staff focus their efforts on improving the well-being of rural communities, especially our rural Appalachian home in West Virginia.
- Online students obtain a thorough understanding of public health and application in core areas of Social and Behavioral Science, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Health Policy and Management, and Environmental Health. The program is designed to prepare students to fill decision-making roles in managed care and other integrated delivery systems.
- Accredited by The Council on Education for Public Health. (CEPH) is an independent agency recognized by the US Department of Education to accredit schools of public health and certain public health programs offered in settings other than schools of public health.

Admission Requirements
- Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum grade-point average of 2.75 on a scale of 4.0.
- Submit scores for the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
(Contact the Department for a list of examinations that may be substituted for the GRE exam.)
- Complete an official WVU application with processing fee requirements

- Submit an essay stating interest in public health/community health
- Submit a CV/Resume
- Complete an official program application and three (3) letters of recommendation.
- A minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam is required for all international applicants and for all applicants whose first language is not English.
- Computer skills are a program requirement. It is the responsibility of students to become skilled in computer applications.
Course Content
The future of public health will be shaped by our nation’s public health agencies via health assessment, policy development, and public health services. The WVU School of Medicine addresses these core areas through the MPH Online Program with Generalist track. This degree gives students a thorough understanding of public health theory and prepares students to fill decision-making roles in managed care and other integrated delivery systems, the medical products industry, health departments, and other governmental agencies, consumer groups, and community-based organizations.
