

The program is delivered primarily online with new cohorts starting in the fall. Courses are offered using web-based modalities and face-to-face meetings. Real time web cast courses are scheduled in the late afternoon at times convenient for working students and may require that students attend special sessions in Morgantown or Charleston two or three times each semester.
Focuses on the skills needed by nursing to succeed in the changing health care environment.
- The MSN program is offered primarily online. Content is provided using real-time, synchronous web casting with a link to the live web classroom available at a computer in the student’s home or other location for the lecture courses. Clinical course contact uses preceptors based regionally.
- Tracks are offered to prepare advanced practice nurses in the specialty areas of family nurse practitioner (FNP), pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP), and neonatal nurse practitioner (NNP). Two programs in development will prepare Geriatric Nurse Practitioners (GNP) and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioners (WHNP).
- Faculty for the program are drawn from the Department of Political Science, Division of Public Administration, Division of
Sociology & Anthropology (Criminology), College of Law, and from practicing attorneys.

Admission Requirements
The following criteria must be met for regular admission to graduate study in
the WVU School of Nursing:
- Satisfy WVU requirements for admission to graduate study.
- Have a cumulative grade-point average of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale on all college work attempted.
- Satisfactory performance on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test.
- Have a current, unrestricted R.N. license in at least one state.
- Hold the degree of bachelor of science in nursing from a nationally accredited school.
- Have completed 3 credits of undergraduate statistics acceptable for transfer with a grade of C or better.
- Have completed a health assessment course, including physical examination skills, with a grade of B or better and acceptable for transfer.
- Submit three letters of reference.
- Submit an essay describing professional goals (limited to two, double-spaced pages).
Course Content
Throughout the curriculum, students are guided in the process of self-development aimed at pursuing excellence in scholarly and professional endeavors. The program allows flexibility within the basic curricular structure through the individualization of learning experiences and participation in a guided research experience.
